How to Ask For Reviews For Your Wedding Business
Reviews are one of the most powerful tools in your marketing kit - and they’re free. But if the thought of asking for one feels like a challenge, you’re not alone.
Whether you’re fresh from a full-service wedding or have just collaborated on a styled shoot, there’s a way to ask for kind words that feels natural, thoughtful, and non-cringe. This post walks you through how to do it, where to collect them, and what to say.

When to Ask for a Review
Timing matters. Ideally, you want to ask:
Just after the wedding when emotions (and gratitude!) are high
Once you’ve delivered the final gallery, video, or service
After a successful collaboration or styled shoot when everyone’s feeling proud
The sweet spot? When they’re still in the glow of the moment, but not overwhelmed with post-wedding admin.
Where to Collect Reviews
Different couples look in different places - so aim for visibility across a few platforms:
Google Reviews – Great for SEO and credibility
Directory platforms like Hitched – Helps to build out your profile and can earn you awards
Your website – Especially powerful when peppered into your homepage or services page
Social media – Screenshots of kind DMs or public shoutouts feel authentic and shareable
LinkedIn (for B2B collaborations) – Perfect after styled shoots, editorials or speaking gigs
Don’t be afraid to ask couples to leave you reviews on Google and on a directory - you’ve done a lot of work for them, and it takes minutes to do, especially if you have a handy template (keep reading to get one!).
How to Ask (Without Feeling Awkward)
Here’s the part that can feel tricky - but it doesn’t have to be. You’re not fishing for compliments. You’re giving someone the opportunity to reflect on a positive experience, and help others make a confident decision.
The key? Make it easy, and frame it with care.
Review Request Template: Copy + Paste
Hi [Name],
It was such a joy to work with you on [project/wedding/shoot]! I’m so glad we could bring your vision to life - and I really valued the trust you placed in me.
If you have a moment, I’d be so grateful if you could share a quick review of your experience. Kind words from lovely clients like you help others feel confident in reaching out - and they mean a lot to small businesses like mine.

Review Request Tips
Personalise your message - add in little details to the above template so it doesn’t feel like a copy and paste job.
Include a direct link to your Google review form or Hitched profile to make it as easy as possible.
Let them know they can keep it short - two or three lines is enough, and you can use it on multiple platforms
Offer alternatives to make it as easy as possibnle (some people are happy to reply in a DM or email)
Follow up gently after a couple of weeks if you haven’t heard back
What If It Wasn’t a Client?
You don’t need to limit reviews to couples. If you collaborated with a fellow vendor on a shoot or editorial, you can absolutely ask for a few lines about the experience - and offer to write one in return. It’s a two-way street, and helps build your professional credibility.
How I Ask For Reviews in My Own Business
When I run a Quick Wins Audit or work on a bespoke project, I always follow up with a short note - thanking them for their time, and asking if they’d be happy to share a few thoughts. I’ve had clients leave reviews on Instagram, email, and even voice notes I transcribe with their permission.
It doesn’t have to be scary. It just has to be sincere.
